5 Things to Look For When Choosing a Tutor

5 Things to Look For When Choosing a Tutor

Finding the right tutor for your child can be tough! With so many options available, how do you know which tutor will best support your child's academic journey?

We've compiled THE guide to help you navigate the process. Seriously. This is it.

Below are the essential qualities every tutor should have, plus some unique attributes to look for that can make all the difference :)

(Read until the end to see why we might not be right for you!)

1. Personalised Learning Approach

Why It's Important: Every child is unique, with their own strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. A one-size-fits-all approach can leave gaps in understanding and fail to address specific challenges.

The Big Problem: Many tutoring services use generic lesson plans that don't cater to individual needs, leading to frustration and lack of progress. (This sucks)

Why Every Tutor Should Have One: A personalised learning approach ensures that the tutor can adapt lessons to fit the student's needs, making learning more effective and enjoyable.

Our Solution: As you'll know if you've done some digging on us, we develop detailed profiles for each student, tailoring our sessions to focus on their specific challenges and strengths.

This customised approach helps build confidence and makes learning maths far less intimidating.

2. Relatable and Engaging Tutors (not 'boring' or 'old')

Why It's Important: Students are more likely to engage and learn when they feel understood and connected to their tutor.

The Big Problem: Many tutors, especially those with vast teaching experience, may be out of touch with the current curriculum and the challenges students face today. (You can really get out of touch with the students once you're 30 years older than them) This is a serious issue, and we've had many students who previously all out refused to engage with their 'boring old' tutor!

Why Every Tutor Should Be Like This: A tutor who has recently navigated the same educational challenges can provide relevant insights and relatable advice.

Our Solution: The team's made up of passionate university students, who've recently excelled in their GCSEs and higher education. They bring fresh, firsthand experience and serve as relatable role models, making it easier for students to engage and learn.

3. Flexible Scheduling

Why It's Important: Life can be unpredictable, and parents need a tutoring service that can accommodate changing schedules.

The Big Problem: Rigid tutoring schedules can add stress to an already busy family life and make it difficult to maintain consistent support.

Why Every Tutor Should Have It: Flexibility in scheduling ensures that tutoring sessions can fit seamlessly into your family's routine, reducing stress and improving consistency.

Our Solution: We've got flexible scheduling options, allowing you to cancel or reschedule sessions up to one hour before without any extra cost. This makes sure your child consistently receives the support they need, even with that busy schedule!

4. Supportive Learning Environment

Why It's Important: A supportive and pressure-free environment can significantly reduce exam stress and improve learning outcomes.

The Big Problem: High-pressure environments can make students anxious and less likely to ask questions or fully engage with the material.

Why Every Tutor Should Have It: Creating a supportive atmosphere encourages students to take risks, ask questions, and learn from their mistakes.

Our Solution: Our tutors create a pressure-free space where students can learn at their own pace. By making maths fun and accessible, we help students build confidence and develop a positive attitude towards the subject.

5. Proven Track Record

Past success is a good indicator of a tutor's effectiveness.

The Big Problem: Without clear evidence of success, it can be challenging to trust that a tutor will deliver the desired results.

A proven track record shows that the tutor has consistently helped students improve their grades and confidence.

Luckily for us, we have a history of turning struggling students into confident learners who excel in their exams. And hey, just scroll down a bit to check out our reviews :)

Who are we NOT right for?

We're a results-based team of hard-working tutors. If you're not prepared to do the work and meet us in the middle, we may not be right for you.

We only accept students who are willing to knuckle down and really try with their education, and try their best to be better.

Since we know we can provide you with great results, we charge premium rates. If you're looking for anything less than £30 an hour, even for multiple sessions a week, we won't be right for you (our work rate increases heavily with each extra weekly session, as we have more responsibilities we take on).

If you care more about results than the lowest price, we'll be happy to have you!
